Education is the Seed of Freedom!
The Freedom Project Network is a backbone organization that supports the sustainability and growth of three youth leadership organizations called Freedom Projects (located in Sunflower, Meridian, and Rosedale, Mississippi).
Inspired by Mississippi's 1964 Freedom Schools, the Freedom Projects offer afterschool and summer programming for middle and high school students that:
- supports the development of core academic competencies, social consciousness, and leadership skills;
- encourages self-awareness and identity development through arts and travel exposure; and
- explores local and global histories of grassroots organizing and movement building.
Our Mission: The Freedom Project Network’s mission is to elevate the work of the Freedom Projects and to provide them with resources that support operational efficiency and high-quality programming.
With your support, we can deliver on this mission by providing financial, administrative, and programmatic support directly to the Freedom Projects. Some examples include:
- Funding for non-programmatic expenses, including salary, health insurance, and professional development.
- Network-wide human resource functions.
- Network-wide learning & development opportunities (for staff and boards).
-
Direct programming for students across all three Freedom Projects (that are funded and administered at the Network-level). At present, this includes:
- Freedom Summer Collegiate — a program that brings PhD candidates to the Freedom Projects to lead 5-week, college credit-bearing summer courses.
- Alumni College Success Program — a program that provides holistic support for Freedom Project alumni throughout their undergraduate experience.
A donation to the Freedom Project Network is an investment in all three Freedom Projects and the potential of Mississippi's youth.
